Abstract
In this paper, the current state of knowledge related to the nature and extent of marigenous minerals is assessed. Special attention is given to the processes of formation, composition, geochemical properties, reserves and regional distribution of the deep sea ferromangenese nodulas, which represent the most promising group of minerals at present and near future. The last development in the mining technology and processing techniques concerning these nodules are reviewed. Their economic profitability and legal problems are also discussed.
